What a Load of Bollards!

The Two New Bollards The Two New Bollards

In my opinion Cockfield parish council do a pretty good job of managing issues in this village, they spend our money wisely and generally do things that improve our way of life. I can’t help thinking however, that in the case of the new bollards placed in the middle of the footpath - adjacent to the quoits pitches and next to Manor Grove - they’ve got it wrong!

Apart from the fact that if you’re my height and you should accidentally walk into one, it gets you straight in the groin - Graham Davies said it would break his nose! - To my mind they just don’t look right being placed in the middle of the footpath.

I appreciate that some people are driving their cars down the footpath - pure laziness and you can clearly see tyre marks on the edge of the green - but my fear is that the same people will still drive down them and then go over the green to avoid the bollards. That aside, in my opinion, they just spoil the look of the village.

Perhaps bollards put adjacent to the Middle House car park might be the answer but that said there’s always the cost to consider.

Maybe it’s just me but I would be interested to hear your comments!

As you know Nigel I hadn't seen them until you pointed them out to me on Sunday night and I have to say they were quite difficult to see in the dark. If someone walks into one they are going to get a nasty knock.

You are right something does need to be done about cars driving on the footpath and it is not an easy problem to address but I'm not sure that this is the answer.

Are there any blog readers out there with alternative ideas.

I agree they look very out of place. One possibility would be to put 2 stone bollards (same ones as on road side) located either side of the path just about where Hoggys road cuts across. Also maybe one on path side near quoits pitch. This would stop there being an obstruction on the path and make its v.difficult for a car to pass. Use the bollards somewhere more appropriate like watery lane...or even nr. the barn conversion on the way into Coronation to stop vans and pickups parking on the path.
