The Butterwick House Children's House shop in Star Yard, Barnard Castle, has reopened following the acquisition of an adjacent property and a total refit. All of the income generated by the shop is donated to the Children's Hospice in Stockton on Tees which freely cares for some 75 children every year who suffer a life limiting illness. Butterwick Hospice now has 16 shops selling donated items of clothing, furniture, books and bric a brac. No clothing items donated to the Charity are ever wasted and even if not of saleable shop quality, they are sold as rags. The Charity's shops in total recycle over 1 million item a year.
