I am delighted to have this blog with the Northern Echo which has been a huge supporter of the Butterwick Hospice for many years.

My plan is to keep readers updated with goings on at the Hospice including our fundraising activities and to generally comment on relevant issues and events which interest, amuse or infuriate me.

Butterwick is very heavily dependent upon the support of the local community to finance its work - on which we spend nearly £4 million every year in caring for some 2,250 patients and their families from North Yorkshire in the south to the Tyne in the north. All of our services are freely provided and without the generous support we receive, we simply could not exist as we do.

I hope therefore that this blog will also enable me to demonstrate, to the local community, some of what we do on your behalf. I hope also that it will serve as a forum for me to receive comments from those who read my ramblings.
