THE wonderful news that the former Barnard Castle Police site can be kept housing free so it can be enjoyed by the public is like a breath of fresh air.

However, it is not for (Durham Constabulary Chief Constable) Mike Barton or (Durham Police and Crime Commissioner), Ron Hogg who obviously think, apart from being high ranking police officers, that they are also planning and building consultants.

I fear this is a step to far. I fear power has gone to their heads.

Mr Barton loves to be in the public eye, and many of his ideas I must say I agree with, but to get embroiled in taking on the very people he swore to protect in this manner over something that is of public concern not just his is, I feel, like a personal vendetta and totally inappropriate for such a highly respected officer.

Mr Hogg and Mr Barton please continue your good work of protecting, not upsetting, those you promised to serve. How much has it cost for solicitors so far and what would/will it cost for you to, as you say, ‘fight’ to get planning? That isn’t the sort of language that should be used is it? To ‘fight’ those you are meant to protect I don’t think is good public police relations do you?
