JOHN CUMBERLAND has very strong views on how traitors should be treated and there is nothing wrong with that, but I think he is missing the point (HAS, Mar 16).

If Russia felt that Sergei Skripal warranted the death penalty, they should have done so while he was in their custody.

Instead they agreed an exchange of prisoners with the UK and that should have been the final act.

I wonder, does John think that the justice he advocates should extend to Skripal’s daughter and the police officer both gravely ill in hospital? I’m sure he doesn’t.
