THE Bird Watch article by Ian Kerr (Echo, Mar 1) talks about the “bitter controversy” which followed the decision by Natural England, the Government’s so-called conservation arm, to issue licences which will allow hen harrier chicks to be taken from nests on grouse moors, to be raised in captivity, and then later released.

This project is known as “brood management” (and what a load of rubbish – in my opinion) and certainly part of it has been roundly condemned by the RSPB and the birding community in general.

I say to Natural England – leave nature alone with her natural breeding habitats, and stop interfering with God’s everyday planning proceedings.

Our Government should concentrate on Brexit.

Anyway, to end with, kindness is the lasting word, for my lovely wife and myself, as shown to us both, during this stormy, wintry weather, by two thoughtful neighbours. We are both 80 but with Stephanie clearing snow from outside our door and Angela bringing us shopping, what more does one want?

God bless them both, and other thoughtful helpers like them.
