HALF a century ago, I was enraged when my country was deposited into a continental club, understandably admired by our metropolitan politicians and the City.

Two decades ago I joined UKIP, I became a political disciple of Nigel Farage, whom I nicknamed “the last great living Frenchman.”

Because of his monumental efforts, we were eventually given a referendum on EU membership.

The long debate before voting was very much the establishment versus the public.

The establishment would make sure that result would not be repeated if another referendum was conjured up on membership.

Unfortunately, Farage is now starting to support this extra referendum, he seems to show his devotion to the City.

After being subject to ever increasing control from Brussels for half a century, it will take years to restore our former independence – maybe five to ten years. But we first have to start the process and leave.

A second referendum would make a mockery of the democratic will of the British people.

We, the English great unwashed, will soon see who holds us in great contempt.
