I HAVE to agree with Steve Lawson from Tow Law (HAS, Dec 11) about the over use of the word “so”.
It really is pointless and a bit annoying, as are other ways the English language is used these days. I think it’s a trend which lots of people copy, like growing beards.
The one thing which really bugs me is AM and PM. There is a lot of miss use of these letters. For example, many television stations say a particular programme is on “tonight at 8pm”.
When I was taught English a long time ago, AM was from midnight to midday, and PM was from midday to midnight. So (oops) “8pm today” would suffice, or “today at 8pm”.
At the end of the day, it’s how things are, innit, yeah!
