THE Northern Echo COMMENT column (Jan 15) posed the question ‘Will Carillon be salvaged?’

One sincerely hopes that not only the 20,000 Carillon jobs will be saved but the many suppliers and sub contractors jobs can be saved also.

Listening to Cabinet Office Minister David Lidington on TV giving assurances that wages at Carillon and their suppliers will be paid in the interim as the liquidator sorts out the Carillon chaos.

However the interim now appears to be only a 48 hour period for the private sector work.

A long term solution is required ‘to ensure the same problems do not reappear in the future.’
