Dementia care

Yes, for some reason dementia and associated illnesses are not “medical” according to the powers that be (when care is funded). I have experienced similar results of the Continuing Health Care Assessment to no avail and feel bitter having to fund his care because my husband has worked all his life and saved for his retirement.

However, I have been disturbed and distressed to find out during the course of the past years that his care would have been funded if he had gone into care via a different Mental Health Section.

I was given the impression I had to make a decision on a care home within the 28 day assessment period, which I did under great stress.

Someone please correct me if my information on this matter is incorrect but I have since been given to understand that had I not made that decision, and my husband had remained in the assessment venue after 28 days, he would have had to be re-sectioned and would have gone into care at a later date, and would have received Continuing Health Care.

I do hope this information is in fact not true as I feel I should have been made aware of this at the onset. Once again, possibly, the horse has bolted as the saying goes.
