I WONDER whose bright idea it was to introduce Colour Runs to our charity sporting calendar.
I cannot quite believe that throwing coloured corn starch at runners which is inhaled when they are struggling to breathe anyway, is a good idea at all.
One of my jobs at Durham University was Department Health & Safety Officer and about 30 years ago I went on an asbestos awareness course run by the University and there was a black and white film of lasses who worked at the asbestos factory fashioning the raw asbestos into ‘snowballs’ and having a whale of time pelting each other with them.
We all know what asbestos does now.
I also wonder how people who go on these charity runs get home again when they are covered in coloured dust.
I am sure it does not do your car or the bus any favours at all. I do hope that risk assessments have been done on these powders as I know that they affect people with asthma. Why on earth do they need to throw this dust around? Just run!
