AS I was driving around Darlington on Wednesday after sunset I encountered five cyclists.

Not one had any lights on their bike.

None were wearing safety helmets.

Two were doing wheelies down Duke Street.

Have they no consideration for their family and friends’?

What will treating these people in our NHS hospitals cost I wonder when they have accidents? What support will they need from the DWP?

When you next read of a cyclist being knocked off their bike and killed or seriously injured spare a thought for the poor motorist who has to encounter this and live with the memory of the accident.

I think we need to bring back cycling proficiency tests to our schools.
