I’VE lived under a kaleidoscope of Prime Ministers and I had formed the opinion that the worst of them was the Tory, Lord Alec Douglas Hume. Until recently that is. Hume may have been useless but his very ineffectiveness ensured that he caused no serious harm.

However for sheer breathtaking uselessness the last two residents of 10 Downing Street take some beating. Between them they may have caused real and irreversible damage to the United Kingdom.

I always thought of Cameron as being a public relations man who had strayed into the world of politics. Consequently, he seemed to have little ideology and a tendency to make impulsive grand gestures with little strategic forethought. We have seen how his decision to hold a referendum has divided the nation.

Having left a pile of elephant poo in the room he has now retired to his caravan in order not to write a book. To succeed him the Tory party anointed Theresa May. Her main promise was to give the country strong and stable leadership and to demonstrate these qualities she first said that there would be no snap election. She then changed her mind and in doing so ensured a hung parliament at the very time that we do need a stable government in order to negotiate our departure from the EU.

Worse than that, she will be dependent on a party of religious bigots that no one on the UK mainland voted for.

For the sake of our children and their children, she should resign and the Brexit decision should be reconsidered. When we voted in the referendum we had no idea that we would later be governed by an incompetent cabal.
