I WOULD like to comment on Nigel Boddy’s recent letter on the Liberal Democrats (HAS, June 17).

It was only two years ago that the Liberal Democrats suffered one of the worst elections in its history.

We propped up the Conservatives in government for five years and in that time we went from more than 50 MPs to eight, we were wiped out in local government, and large numbers of our party membership and activists quit the party (including me).

Why would he want to put the party through that at a time when we are just starting to repair the damage?

Also, our party does not have coronations for our leader. We leave that sort of thing for the Tories.
