TERRY Tucker (HAS, June 15) accuses Theresa May of being emotional about the election, and he sardonically offers her paper handkerchiefs.

In fact, she seems remarkably upbeat about the whole thing. She was even cracking jokes about it in Parliament the other day.

She comes across as a tough cookie, and I couldn’t imagine her shedding tears, either about the election or anything else.

I can imagine her kicking herself now on realising how completely she misread the national mood, but not crying.

Actually in politics, as elsewhere, you shouldn’t try to belittle your opponent unless your criticisms are responsible and accurate.
