What was your first car?
It was a white G Reg Vauxhall Astra 1.3 – it had no power steering, no electric windows and a cassette player. I put some powerful speakers in it that cost the same amount as the car which cost me £300. I remember I loved it. I picked my mate up in a morning and we drove to college. It represented freedom to me.
How many times did it take to pass your test?
I passed first time. The guy was called Andy and it was in a Renault Clio and it had power-steering.
Who would be your ideal fantasy passenger and where would you go?
Bill Hicks and I’d love to drive across America with him.
What is your dream car?
Dodge Viper in red because I love American muscle cars.
How would you describe your driving style?
Confident and courteous.
Tell me one driving anecdote from your past?
I was filming a commercial in Slovakia for a well-known mobile phone company and when I got over there they had a convertible sports car for me to drive. They hadn’t even checked I could actually drive or if I had a clean licence. The car was a left hand drive and being pretty young I hadn’t yet tried to drive abroad. The route was a long stretch of windy ‘Bond-esque’ road and they wanted me to drive pretty fast while talking to the actress playing my partner in the advert, contending with a camera rig on a truck in front of me, a rig beside me, a rig behind me and a director and cameraman in the back seat. To top it all off they wanted me to overtake huge lorries along the route. I drove for 12 hours straight and although enjoyable and challenging as it was, I really felt like I should have been added to the stuntman’s register that day as it was pretty hair-raising too!
What are you listening to?
In the car, I generally listen to a mixture of classic soul, R&B, hip-hop and rock. I have quite an eclectic taste in music and when I get in the car the first thing I do is put on my tunes as the car is my place to listen to music.
What do you drive now?
I drive a BMW X1 M Sport in black. It’s a great family car. Not too big, nippy and safe. I also drive an Audi TT in silver. I’ve always loved Audi’s – the TT especially. It’s nice to have something a little sporty to get out in when I’m not being dad.
