The Northern Echo: Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire

Why do you cycle?

To keep fit and healthy.

What do you ride and why?

I ride a road bike. I’m not really into mountain biking so happy with staying on my trusty steed with drop handle bars.

Tell me about your favourite route?

I'm very lucky living in Yorkshire, we are blessed with so many good routes. I love cycling in the Dales as well as the North York Moors - just inland from Scarborough and Whitby has some amazing routes.

Tell me about your best cycling memory?

My best cycling memory - securing the Grand Départ for Yorkshire and seeing the hugely positive impact it's had on people's lives right across Yorkshire. I'm really looking forward to it coming back again!

What do you consider your most important piece of cycling equipment?

Without doubt the most important piece of kit is my helmet. I've had a few crashes and my helmet has saved me from serious injury.

If you could cycle anywhere where would that be?

I'm very happy to be lucky enough to cycle in Yorkshire, long may that be the case! Chapeau!
