A CLASSIC car has been donated to East Durham College's Technical Academy by a generous member of the public.

The Academy’s grateful motor vehicle maintenance department took delivery of the top spec BMW 850CSI, donated by Diane Borsberry, of Trimdon Grange.

Diane, who is unable to drive due to medical reasons, was disappointed to see the car being left unused and wanted to see it go to a good home.

She called the team at The Technical Academy who were delighted to take it off Diane’s hands to use for training purposes with their motor vehicle students.

Now the students and staff are busy returning the car to its former glory at the Peterlee-based campus on the town’s South West Industrial Estate.

Staff recently invited Diane into the Academy to see the work they had done on the car so far and to meet the students. They gave her a tour of the facility and presented her with a bouquet of flowers.Diane said: “It just seemed such a waste to have the car sat going to nothing, so I wanted it go to good use. Hopefully it can be a great learning resource for students who study at The Technical Academy and more use here for the lecturers and students than sat on my drive at home.”
