MORE UK cars are being recalled over a potential airbag problem that has plagued the motor industry worldwide for years.

The latest recall is by Honda and follows recalls announced yesterday by Toyota and Nissan over airbags made by Japanese company Takata Corp.

The Honda recall involves nearly five million vehicles worldwide - with 3.22 million needing to have their passenger-side airbag checked and 1.68 million cars requiring driver airbag checks.

The number of UK vehicles involved is not yet known but it is likely to run into several thousand.

In the latest problem, a leak can happen while the vehicle is in use, causing a rupture, and the airbag could explode. Earlier recalls were for exploding inflators in airbags.

Millions of cars worldwide have been recalled overall.

Honda said there had been no injuries or incidents related to this latest recall.
