IF I have to travel to London I much prefer to hop on a train than take my car.

One of the major selling points of travel by train is the free wi-fi.

Provided I have booked a seat I can get my laptop out and put my travel time to productive use - for free.

But not for much longer, it seems.

East Coast - the major train operator on the East Coast Main Line - is planning to charge £4.95 per hour of wi-fi use.

Soon you'll get 15 measely minutes free. Then you'll have to stump up the cash.

This goes against the grain when restaurants, fast food outlets and shops are moving to a free wi-fi offer as a way of attracting more customers.

I can't see charging a fiver for an hour of wireless internet attracting anyone - can you?
