MORE sad news - the latest issue of What Video (now called What Video & Hi-Def TV) will be the last.
I've been a regular reader of What Video since the very first issue way back in 1981.
In those days it was the only way I could read about the cutting edge technologies of VHS and Betamax.
That first ish had no real criticisms of any note - it was a one-shot and staff had no means of measuring picture quality.
But the mag was so popular it got the immediate go-ahead to become a monthly.
What Video invested in expensive testing equipment that was capable of measuring a VCR's performance. It's test soon became the industry standard measure for what was good and bad.
The publication embraced home cinema, DVD and, more recently, flat screens and high definition television.
It will be much missed.
