REVIEWS: Schubert, Symphonies 8 & 9 (BIS-SACD-1656) The Swedish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Thomas Dausgaard make a strong case for performing 19th- Century symphonic works with a chamber ensemble. Having released recordings of works by Schumann and Dvorak they turn to the final symphonies of Franz Schubert.

These taut readings set at a brisk tempo cast these symphonies in a new light. Highly recommended.

Masaaki Suzuki plays Buxtehude (BISSACD- 1809) Suzuki performs a varied selection of Buxtehude’s organ works ranging from brief chorale preludes to the magnificent Te Deum Laudamus and the celebrated Ciaccona in E minor. Suzuki began his career as a church organist at the age of 12. This album is a perfect introduction to the composer.

Sharon Bezaly Flute Concertos (BIS-CD- 1799) Flautist Bezaly sprinkles her magic on works by Nicolas Bacri, Leonard Bernstein, Brett Dean and Christopher Rouse. Compelling listening.
