THIS is a wonderful, enigmatic encounter – part novel, part RPG, part strategy. It launches you, as Phileas Fogg’s French companion, Passepartout, on the legendary attempts to circumnavigate the world in 80 Days by any means necessary. Planes, trains and automobiles will no doubt come into play, but not as you might first think. The whole game is set in an alternative steampunkinspired world, littered with innovative travelling contraptions, conspiracy theories and interesting characters to converse with.
Each stop at a city will present a number of options, from trading previous purchases for profit to uncovering new routes that may save you time and money – the two most precious things in your inventory – on your onward journey. With multiple choice narrative and dialogue throughout, and hundreds of cities to visit, the replay value here is unlike any other app in recent memory – you’ll return to London and want to beat your own, and fellow travellers’, times. A superb, grown-up gaming adventure.
