CD REVIEWS
Holly Cole (Tradition & Modern T&M039)
I haven't heard this Canadian singer before, but greatly enjoyed this new album, apparently the jazziest record she has produced. There's a nice selection of mostly familiar songs by Mancini, Legrand, Jobim, Porter and Berlin and one of her own, with backing by a strong jazz line-up with Greg Cohen, Marty Ehrlich and Scott Robinson, with arrangements by Gil Goldstein.
Ed Saindon & Dave Liebman /Depth of Emotion (World Improvised Music WIM1005)
I'd previously heard Saindon on vibes in a mainstream session with Warren Vache, but here he adds marimba and piano on a more modern quartet session also featuring soprano saxophonist (and flautist) Liebman. There's a touching tribute to his Berklee colleague Herb Pomeroy and other originals interspersed with Green Dolphin Street and Moon River, plus five attractive 'piano solo reflections'.
