HASTE, an all-female, international physical theatre company, have revamped their multi award-winning show Oyster Boy and are currently taking it to theatres across the UK.

Oyster Boy opened in London to great reviews and sell out audiences and arrives at York Theatre Royal on Saturday, April 1

Inspired by the title story of Tim Burton’s collection of poems The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy, the show is a vibrant, original devised production mixing story telling, live music, clown, dance and puppetry, that focuses on topical themes of what it means to be 'other' in society, motherhood and fear of difference.

Based in London, Haste Theatre is a young, all female, international theatre company who share a passion for simple, innovative and creative storytelling. They create physically devised, original work that is light and humorous in nature, yet remains grounded in questions of humanity. Haste Theatre has toured shows in both the US and Europe. As well as their multidisciplinary performances, they also offer a creative learning programme through workshops in schools, colleges and community centres.Oyster Boy stars Eleanor Beaman-Brinklow, Valeria Compagnoni, Jesse Dupré, Lexie McDougall, Tamara Saffir and Sophie Taylor. It tells the story of Sam, a boy born with an oyster-shell shaped head, his friendships with those who can see past his otherness, and his parent's struggle to raise this unusual boy; a 1950’s beach side, bittersweet tale of the trials of love and what it means to be 'different'.

"Re-developing and touring Oyster Boy at this particular point in time, brings a new relevance to the story. We hope that young people and adults alike will stop, think and draw parallels," says Valeria Compagnoni, co-director and devisor at Haste Theatre.

Told through a rich blend of physical storytelling, live choral singing, clown, dance and puppetry this colourful, multilingual dark comedy invites you to delve into a sensitive, funny and surreal world.

The company provide a lively accompanying workshop to engage people with the themes of the show and their playful working style.

Haste Theatre have been chosen for the New Diorama/Ideas Tap Emerging Artist Graduate Programme and showcase and won numerous awards for their work.
