Golden moments of Simon and Garfunkel heads for Newcastle

ONE of the greatest songwriting partnerships of all time is to be celebrated in a new show, which is heading to Newcastle's Tyne Theatre next week and marks the 50th anniversary of when Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel shot to fame with The Sound of Silence.

The show has been put together by Dean Elliott, who was in the hit West End musical, Buddy, who says:

“The Simon and Garfunkel show has really taken off and I found I hadn’t time to be in it and to keep on top of everything else we are involved in. I hope that people will come along and discover a lot of things they didn’t know along the way.”

The production features back projection and video. “That was done to take the audience back in time,” explains Elliott, who appears as Paul Simon during some performances.

Gregory Clarke is Simon and Joe Sterling is Garfunkel at most shows.

The Simon and Garfunkel Story’ tells the fascinating tale of how two young boys from Queens, New York went on to become the world’s most successful music duo of all time. Starting from their humble beginnings as 1950s rock n roll duo Tom & Jerry, the show takes the audience through all the songs and stories that shaped Simon and Garfunkel. The dramatic split is featured and their individual solo careers which finally led to a stunning recreation at the legendary 1981 Central Park reunion concert. The tribute production also features a full cast of talented actor / musicians who have some of the best material ever created to take audiences on a moving and powerful musical journey. The hits featured include Mrs Robinson, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Homeward Bound, Scarborough Fair, The Boxer and, of course, The Sound Of Silence.
