The Hummingbirds head for Newcastle

BORN and bred Liverpool five-piece The Hummingbirds have steadily been building a following in their home town on the Mersey with more than 30,000 followers on their social media platforms (YouTube/ Facebook/ Twitter), and are now making waves nationwide after launching their debut EP Out Of The Rain in November.

Their current tour, which has already sold out in London, reaches The Cluny, Newcastle, tomorrow night (February 17).

The band's melodic song craft has made them the modern-day exponents of the Mersey sound, a rich tradition stretching back to the days when the Beatles swept the city, and then the world, before them. The Hummingbirds deliver a 21st Century take on that heritage, sprinkled with elements of Americana. Think of the hooks of the Fab Four of 1964, the harmonies of the Hollies circa Sorry Suzanne and the jangling guitar landscapes of early Eagles, and you’re somewhere near. Yet, after honing their style on stage and in the studio, the group they sound like most is the Hummingbirds.

Their debut album, Pieces Of You, will be released on their own label, Gladstone Recording Co, at the end of March, featuring their up-tempo new single Knocking On My Door, along with the title track of harmonious, melancholic blues and their debut release Out Of The Rain.

The 23-year-olds are Jay Davies (lead vocals/guitar), Mic Kountis (guitar/backing vocals), Matty Brougham (rhythm guitar) Ryan Lewis (bass) and Richard Smith (drums / backing vocals).
