Cleveland Philharmonic concert at Eaglescliffe

THIS weekend the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) is performing an afternoon of wonderful music with an American Theme on Sunday, February 7, at 3pm at Teesside High School, The Avenue, Eaglescliffe.

The programme is: Dvorak: Symphony No 9 (New World), Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue, Bernstein: Candide Overture and

Copland: Rodeo Ballet Suite.

The conductor is David Greed and the piano soloist is Barbara White.

The CPO is a full-sized symphony orchestra with about 80 members, including many music teachers from the area, which gives two challenging concerts each year. Each concert is preceded by two Sundays of intensive rehearsal. The orchestra was founded in 1975 by the late Edwin Raymond and continues to support his main aim of providing advanced players in the Teesside area with the opportunity to perform some of the more challenging works in the orchestral repertoire. The orchestra has performed major works by Bartok, Bruckner, Elgar, Hindemith, Humperdinck, Mahler, Shostakovitch and Vaughan-Williams.

* Tickets are £10 (under 18 go free). Tickets are available from members of the orchestra, at the door, by telephoning the secretary on 01325-788679, or from wegottickets.com. There is also a facebook page under Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra.
