Young find Scarborough door to theatre

YOUNGSTERS from across North Yorkshire will present a programme of devised theatre at the Stephen Joseph Theatre on Sunday, February 7.

Seven youth groups from around the county will take part in The Door at the SJT from 4.30pm, each presenting a show around the theme of doorways and the places they can lead to: sometimes funny, sometimes magical, sometimes scary.

The seven groups are from Craven/Skipton, Hambleton/Bedale, Harrogate, Richmond, Ryedale, Scarborough and Tadcaster and are all part of Fuse Theatre, an inclusive youth theatre which is part of Connecting Youth Culture (CYC), the youth arts wing of the Youth Support Service within the county.

CYC works with young people with special educational needs and disabilities alongside non-disabled young people to provide an inclusive theatre experience.

Its approach embodies a conviction that the arts can make a positive impact on young people, particularly where provision includes high-quality equipment, training and support. There is a strong emphasis on accessibility, including use of mobile resources.

The Door will take place in the Round at the SJT, and tickets are free. To book in advance call the box office on 01723-470541 or visit sjt.uk.com
