It's a record for Jools Holland at Newcastle

JUST after appearing at Newcastle City Hall tomorrow (Weds, Dec 2) and Thursday (Dec 3) boogie-woogie master Jools Holland and UK’s queen of soul Ruby Turner will be releasing the album Jools & Ruby.

It will feature a selection of the duo’s personal favourites and crowd-pleasers, including four new recordings on the release which is available from Friday (Dec 4.

Peace In The Valley and Same Old Heart join new compositions Pray Have Mercy, co-written by Jools and Ruby, and Christmas Song, which has music written by Jools to accompany the poem by Wendy Cope. Additional tracks include airwaves favourites The Informer, Jumpin’ in the Morning and This Train.

The pair met 22 years ago when Jools was looking for singers to join his big band. Ruby’s incredible voice matched her big personality and the two soon became friends. Describing Ruby as the sister he never had, Jools invited the singer to perform at his wedding. The duo have gone on to write and record music together and travelled the world with tours alongside the much-loved Rhythm & Blues Orchestra.

They are currently reaching the end of a 34-date tour across the UK and Ireland, including two nights at London’s famous Royal Albert Hall. The Selecter’s Pauline Black and Arthur "Gaps" Hendrickson will join the party on selected dates, in addition to Ivor Novello-winning KT Tunstall, with the tones of Louise Marshall and Mabel Ray and the tireless drums of original Squeeze member Gilson Lavis.
