NEWCASTLE-based art gallery, The Biscuit Factory, has unveiled the line-up for its autumn exhibition which includes an eclectic mix of artists and collections from the North-East and beyond.

The Biscuit Factory, the UK’s largest arts, craft and design gallery, will exhibit more than 200 artists in its new exhibition, incorporating a diverse collection of contemporary paintings, prints, glass, sculpture, textiles and jewellery.

Following on from the success of his previous sell-out exhibition, Scottish oil painter, Gordon Wilson, is headlining the autumn show. Gordon’s decorative work uses rich colours and patterns formed from ornate field systems and wild flowers to capture his love for the Scottish west coast.

Each season, the gallery also showcases a variety of North-East-based talent. The upcoming exhibition will feature the works of almost 50 local artists, including fantasy landscapes from Darren Mundy, and iconic local city and landscapes from Judith Appleby, Alan Smith Page and Bernie Wisniewski.

Other highlights this autumn include strong line prints from Henrietta Corbett; stoneware and porcelain sculptures from ceramicist Midori Takiki; striking figurative portraits by Steven Lindsay and intricate silver and gold jewellery from ABC Collective.

Rachel Brown, general manager of The Biscuit Factory, says: “We have an exciting selection of artists this autumn and kicking off the exhibition we're presenting a revamped preview evening, making it more of a cultural launch event with an itinerary of artist talks, demonstrations and plenty of opportunities for our visitors and collectors to dip in to, if they wish, to find out more about the art we have on display.

“With live music, complimentary drinks and delicious appetisers courtesy of our restaurant artisan, we hope this updated, less formal take on the traditional preview evening works to attract a diverse crowd of people who may perhaps appreciate learning something new about varied art practices and fundamentally who may enjoy viewing the wealth of creativity and talent we have on display.”

The autumn show launch event is on September 4 and runs until November 12. The gallery is open seven days a week and admission is free.
