It’s A Wonderful Life, York Grand Opera House

PROBABLY the most popular Christmas movie of all time, It's A Wonderful Life, has been adapted from the Frank Capra film by Tony Palermo and is directed Guy Retallack for the region's only visit in November. The cast includes Oliver Stoney (George Bailey), Augustina Seymour (Mary Bailey), David Benson (Gower, Potter, Pop Bailey and Bert), Lynsey Beauchamp (Superintendent, Ma Bailey, Mrs Hatch, Janie), Richard Albrecht (Clarence and Uncle Billy) and Benjamin Chamberlain (Young George, Sam Wainwright, Harry, Carter, Bank Teller, Charlie and Ernie)

For those struggling to recalled the the iconic story of Bedford Falls idealist George Bailey, whose dreams look set to be dashed by small-town scandal and big business, we follow the desperate businessman to the point, alone on a bridge, when he decides that everyone would be better off without him… or would they? It falls to hapless guardian angel, Clarence, to try and save him.

In a new production that premiered to excellent reviews in London last year, the plot is retold as a radio play, complete with sound effects created live on stage. This loving tribute to the golden era of the wireless is a James Seabright and Climar Productions for Radio Stage Limited, who presented the original Bridge House Theatre production.
