Some late Easter laughter
THE "Late" North-East Easter Laffalang tomorrow and Saturday (April 24 to 25) will have guest appearances from Humpty Dumpty, the Easter Bunny, the 12 disciples and dozens more characters in 15 original sketches.
The comedy show at the Westovian Theatre in Ocean Road, South Shields, will be the fifth in the series and such is its growing status, comedian Chris Ramsay did three minutes of new material at the Valentine Laffalang in February. The event is written by South Shields playwright Ed Waugh and will be compered by top North-East comedian Lee Kyle.
Gareth Hunter, Laffalang producer, says: "The way people are supporting the Laffalang now is phenomenal. From a standing start 15 months ago, we are getting between 300 and 400 people along, which is fantastic. It is supposed to finish around 9.30pm, but often we have to curtail the show an hour later because of sustained laughter."
The cast will comprise regulars Bob Stott, Paul Dunn, Rosie Ramsey, Hazel Pude and Stephen Sullivan, plus Sunderland-born actor Luke Maddison, who will be making his Laffalang debut. Dunn recently won an award for his one-man show I Left My Heart in Roker Park.
"We are also very excited about working on a comedy writing talent search with the wonderful Sunday for Sammy charity in the summer, and anyone interested in being involved should visit http://www.sundayforsammy.org/laffalang.html," says Hunter.
