Children's Easter adventures

FROM today (Good Friday) to Monday, April 6, 11am to 5pm each day, English Heritage are offering youngsters the chance to become the adventurer they’ve always wanted to be. They can meet characters from the past with stories of times gone by – maybe a king, a butler or even a monk – and these honourable folk will be happy to help children on a quest as they explore fascinating locations and crack the clues.

For those who rise to the challenge there's a chance to win a chocolate reward as well as getting a little hands-on with history and enjoy all that fresh air to boot. The Easter weekend events, free to English Heritage members are taking place at Brodsworth Hall, Whitby Abbey, Scarborough Castle, Richmond Castle and Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens in Northumberland.

There's also an opportunity to see a spot of Medieval Falconry at Rievaulx Abbey from today until Monday, April 6, 12pm to 5pm. The displays are in the hands of costumed master medieval falconers Raphael Falconry, with demonstrations of the Sport of Kings. There will be aerial displays of birds of prey in flight and discover how these birds were used by the nobles of the Medieval period for sport and for the table.

Whitby Abbey hosts a Myths and Legends Weekend on Saturday, April 25 to Sunday, April 26, 11am to 5pm. The cast who staged a thrilling Dracula show is now preparing stories of serpents and St Hilda from one of the most atmospheric abbeys in England.

*All children are welcome to take part in these events. An additional £1 will be charged on every standard admission for each child member or non-member to help pay for this entertainment activity.
