Faron Young - Wine Me Up The Best Of The Mercury Years (Humphead Records)

MENTION Faron Young here in Britain and the majority of the population would think of a song called 'Four In The Morning'.

The song was released by him in 1971 and gave him his first number one single hit on the Billboard Country Singles Chart, it also became a major hit here in the UK reaching number three in the UK singles charts in July 1972 where it sold 500,ooo copies.

It seems that as far as the UK was concerned that it was to be his one hit wonder this side of the pond.

No so in the States however as from the fifties he had stamped his mark in country music circles with other hits prior to his crossover into our pop charts.

The traditional country fans here in Britain new of his prowess in country music and of his success through until his untimely death when he committed suicide in 1996 at the age of sixty four.

A new release on the Humphead record label treats the listener to a double CD containing fifty tracks simply called 'Faron Young - Wine Me Up' The Best of the Mercury Years.

Songs featured include the title track,'Wine Me Up','Goin' Steady','Four In The Morning','Save The Last Dance For Me' and "Walk Tall' which many folk may have associated with Val Doonican years later.

He is also joined on duet cuts with Margie Singleton.

Sometimes it seemed he was overlooked for his contribution to country music by both fans and country historians ,this album pays a great tribute to him with songs taken from different releases over the years.

A great double CD release for the discerning traditional country music appreciator.
