Classical music fans are in for a triple treat over the next couple of weeks, with the Albany Piano Trio, performing at Central Hall, Darlington, plus a keenly anticipated Chamber Concert and a Sunday afternoon Classical Cafe at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

Darlington Music Society's second concert of the season features a trio who are making an excellent name for themselves on the concert circuit. The Albany Piano Trio are coming to the Central Hall, at the Dolphin Centre, Darlington on Saturday, November 8, 7.30pm.

Their programme for us provides an interesting variety of styles from Haydn through Dvorak to Debussy and promises a delightful evening of music making.

The Albany Piano Trio is a thriving, dynamic ensemble whose repertoire focuses on works by female composers - both current and historic - alongside the traditional canon of pieces that make the more established body of piano trio repertoire.

Founded in 2010, the trio has risen compellingly from a nascent group to an established ensemble, having performed at a large number of high profile venues and gathered insights, via masterclasses and international music courses, from some of the preeminent exponents in their respective fields. They work particularly with Susan Tomes, Simon Rowland-Jones, Lowri Blake and Peter Cropper.

The Albany Piano Trio’s interest in female composers has led to performances of works by Clara Schumann, Judith Weir, Sally Beamish and Lili Boulanger. They are excited to have recently made their first commission, written by Charlotte Bray and entitled 'Those Secret Eyes'.

Tickets are £11 available on 01325-486555.

Classical music fans are in for another double treat over the next couple of weeks, with a keenly anticipated Chamber Concert and a Sunday afternoon Classical Cafe coming up in quick succession at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

London favourites The English Piano Trio play an intimate Chamber Concert on Tuesday, November 11, quickly followed by an afternoon with Charlotte Heslop & Sarah Ryan in the second of the Town Hall’s Classical Cafes on Sunday, November 16.

Now celebrating their 24th season, the much-loved English Piano Trio perform regularly at major London venues including The Southbank as well as touring extensively abroad.

Specialising in music from the classical period, they’ll be performing works by Mozart (Trio in C), Schumann (Trio in D minor), and Beethoven (Archduke).

Mozart’s delightful Trio in C major will get the concert off to fine start, with the evening concluding in fine style with Schumann’s romantic and spirited Trio in D minor.

And Beethoven’s Archduke Piano Trio is considered as a pinnacle of the great composer’s chamber music, renowned as one of the great romantic works of the early 19th Century.

The music then continues at the second of the Town Hall’s Sunday afternoon Classical Cafes on Sunday, November 16.

Relaxed and informal, the Café in the Crypt will see classical fans enjoy an afternoon with Charlotte Heslop and Sarah Ryan.

A mezzo-soprano from County Durham, Charlotte currently studies voice with Kathleen McKellar Ferguson at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she holds a scholarship.

And Sarah Ryan studied with Miranda Wright for three years at the Sage Gateshead Weekend School and is also a Samling Academy participant.

Both dates are the latest in the Town Hall’s brand new Classical Music season, which includes a string of great international orchestras plus a series of more intimate chamber concerts, thanks to funding from Arts Council England.

Tickets for both these concert are available on 01642-729 729 or middlesbroughtownhallonline.co.uk
