THE Twilight Sad – Nobody Wants To Be Here And Nobody Wants To Leave

“I don’t think we will ever break into the mainstream,” says James Graham, vocalist with the Twilight Sad.

He’s not being defeatist, giving in without try. No, it’s more a case of he’s not prepared to sacrifice his values to chase a bit of shortlived fame.

It’s a laudable stance, but does mean that, for many, Scotland'sThe Twilight Sad will remain far from their radar.

There’s a certain melancholy nature to the band’s songs, reminiscent of the groups from my youth. Take songs titles such as I Could Give You All That You Don’t Want, Drown So I Can Watch and Sometimes I Wished I Could Fall Asleep for starters.

Yet at the same time, there’s hope and no small amount of joy in the construction and performance.

A memorable album that is perhaps all the better for the fact that only a few of us know it exists.
