THE award-winning touring theatre company, Théâtre Sans Frontières (TSF), is touring its latest production, Heaven Eyes, to venues in the North this autumn.

Adapted from his novel by the celebrated children’s author, David Almond (Skellig), Heaven Eyes is a poetic but gritty story about young people trying to find their way in the world. Running away from a care home, Erin, January and Mouse sail downriver on a makeshift raft. Washed up on the mudflats, they meet a strange girl, Heaven Eyes, and a man she calls Grampa, who digs for treasures in the mud. As Erin befriends Heaven Eyes and tensions begin to rise within the group, January’s suspicions about the old man grow. What is the secret he’s hiding?

David Almond is based in Northumberland and won the Whitbread Children’s Book Award and the Carnegie Medal for his first novel, Skellig. TSF has worked closely with David Almond on the production, collaborating fully on interpretation and over text or scene changes.

Performing in Heaven Eyes is TSF regular Paddy Burton from Stanhope, County Durham; the company’s joint artistic director Sarah Kemp and Robert Nicholson (If It’s Not On, It’s Not On). Joining them for the first time are Maria Lindh from Sweden and Tyneside actors, Natalie Ann Jamieson and Lawrence Neale.

The company is based in Hexham and aims to produce theatre by world authors in its original language. Since its formation in 1991, TSF has created more than 40 productions in English, French, German and Spanish and has toured extensively to theatres, arts centres, schools and colleges throughout the UK.

Among their many awards, the company won the Golden Mask for Best Foreign Production presented in Russia for its performance at the Chekhov International Theatre Festival, in Moscow. The Company has just returned from London after presenting If It’s Not On, It’s Not On, a production for young adults commissioned by the Society for General Microbiology.

Heaven Eyes is suitable for everyone aged nine and over, and will tour venues in Northern England and Scotland until mid-November.
