EVERYONE loves a fireman and they don’t come much more popular than Fireman Sam.

The show has been around for almost three decades and its popularity shows no sign of waning.

Changes have been made over the years, gone is the stop-motion animation of the original series to be replaced by the latest CGI technology.

Traditionalists will see this as a sad move, and to a degree it is, if like me you have grown up with lovingly simplistic sets and jerky movements, but the simple fact is that our kids know nothing of this and so this cleaner, more detailed procedure is what they associate with their animated heroes.

In this latest DVD, Sam and his Pontpandy colleagues open a new ocean rescue facility – the village having been relocated to the seaside some time ago – and, alongside coastguard, Ben, immediately find people in need of their expert help.

There are six episodes on the DVD and if my two-year-old’s reaction is anything to go by, Sam’s services will be required for some years to come yet.

Fireman Sam – Ocean Rescue is available to buy now, priced £12.99.
