Exhibition rugby match will raise money in memory of father and son
AN EXHIBITION rugby match will raise money in memory of a father and son who died in a road accident.
On Sunday September 2, Mowden Park Rugby Club, in Darlington, will hold a charity match in the memory of Paul and Andrew Austen who died in February.
The car they were travelling in clipped a curb on Burtree Lane, Darlington, and crashed into a concrete crash barrier.
The match will be a battle of sexes, with Fiona Austen, Paul's wife and Andrews's mother, playing on the ladies team.
To make the match more equal, the ladies will be allowed to make up some additional rules.
The day promises to be full of fun with a tug of war, Sumo wrestling, barbecue and raffle. The gates open at 12 noon with the rugby starting at 1.45pm and there is no door charge.
All proceeds will go to the Great North Air Ambulance Service who helped transport the pair to hospital after the accident.
