Thorp Perrow ready for Yorkshire’s Chelsea Flower Show hero

MATTHEW Wilson, award-winning RHS Chelsea Flower Show garden designer will make a guest appearance at Thorp Perrow Arboretum on September 30 to discuss his Chelsea Journey.

The Welcome to Yorkshire garden, designed by Matthew Wilson, God’s Own County – A Garden for Yorkshire, was voted by the public as the BBC People’s Choice garden and awarded a silver medal by the RHS Chelsea judges. Faith Douglas, curator at Thorp Perrow, assisted with the garden’s construction alongside a team of veterans from the Help for Heroes Recovery Centre in Catterick.

The garden was inspired by the great East Window at York Minster – the largest single expanse of medieval stained glass in Britain and showcased the wealth of stunning scenery, iconic heritage, deep-rooted industries and skilled tradespeople that Yorkshire has to offer.

“I've been visiting Thorp Perrow for years. I was thrilled to be able to work with Thorp Perrow’s curator Faith Douglas and the Help for Heroes team that she supports. The garden was a real hit at the show and I'm really looking forward to being able to talk about the design and development of the garden in the wonderful setting of Thorp Perrow,” says Wilson

Faith Douglas says; “Matthew’s work is an inspiration for me and having shared part of his Chelsea journey, I look forward to hearing the story of the garden.”
