AN energy sector broker has revealed plans to create 70 jobs in an office expansion.

Splash Utilities says it wants scores of workers after taking over an empty Middlesbrough office.

The firm focuses on water contracts for businesses, with further links to gas and electric products, and says 30 staff are already working at its new Royal Middlehaven House base.

Bosses say they expect to recruit another 70 people over the next year, with apprenticeships and traineeships part of their plans.

Tony Anderson, managing director, said: “Splash will be a formidable force in the utilities industry while giving job creation and economic support to Middlesbrough and the Tees Valley.

“We are a clean, fresh and credible brand looking to grow within the sector, working alongside the local authority to offer jobs.

“We are delighted with the staff we have in place and are looking forward to creating more job opportunities.”

The business has received a grant of more than £350,000 from the SSI Task Force, which was formed in the aftermath of the Redcar steelmaker’s collapse to support the local jobs market.

Amanda Skelton, chairwoman, said: “This shows how, with some support from the SSI Task Force, businesses can expand and create many new jobs.”

Councillor Charlie Rooney, Middlesbrough’s deputy mayor, added: “A key aim for Middlesbrough Council is to increase the number of jobs here and diversify by trying to attract different types of businesses.

“This announcement ticks both boxes.”
