MORE than 100 former students have been honoured by a North-East school as they head on to the next stage of their lives.

Hurworth School Leavers’ Ceremony saw 120 former Year 11 pupils return to the school, along with their proud parents.

Headteacher Dean Judson said: “It’s been incredibly special to have this group of young children with us throughout these five years. It’s a privilege to watch these young children grow into absolutely first class young adults. When they came in as Year 7s, very quickly with this year group we realised we had something really special.”

Mr Judson told the former students: “Hopefully you’re all as proud of coming here as we are of having you here, and it’s great to have you all back together one last time.”

GCSE certificates were presented to each student, prizes were awarded for outstanding performance in the school’s different subject areas, and awards were presented, recognising contribution to the school calendar and exceptional attendance.

For her impressive academic effort and achievement, Lauren Traynor was presented with the Lloyds Bank Top Marks Trophy by Peter Hood, of Middlesbrough Football Club, which enjoys a close partnership with Hurworth School.

The Head Teacher’s Award was presented to two equally deserving winners, Ffion Taylor-Garthwaite and Harry Garstin.

Special awards were also presented to the schools exiting Head Boy, Curtis Tweddall and Head Girl Emily Pawlett, as well as Deputy Head Boy, Euan Mulholland, and Deputy Head Girl, Ashley Stayman-Collin.

Entertainment was provided by current GCSE Music student Abigail Westerman, with a moving performance of Alessia Cara’s Scars to Your Beautiful.
