AN authority is carrying out a review of all of its buildings following the Grenfell Tower fire disaster.

Durham County Council leader Cllr Simon Henig says the authority is working to review all of its buildings in light of the devastating fire in London, which has left 79 people dead or missing.

Cllr Henig confirmed that social housing providers in County Durham do not have any high-rise accommodation.

He said: “We our reviewing our property portfolio and are working closely with County Durham Fire and Rescue Service and other partners to ensure we conduct a thorough and comprehensive review and ensure fire risks are being managed.

“We are checking all Durham County Council buildings that use cladding and we can reassure people that fire resistant cladding must be used in all new buildings and refurbishments.”

A minute’s silence was held at the start of the council’s monthly meeting at County Hall, Durham, which took place yesterday, to remember the victims of the fire, as well as those killed during terrorist attacks in London and Manchester.
