ONE lucky Northern Echo reader is now £1,000 richer after a cash draw took place in the newspaper’s Priestgate offices.

Thousands of readers entered the ‘Win £1,000 Cash’ competition, which required them to collect tokens over a four-week period.

Assistant editor Scott Wilson conducted the draw on Facebook Live, with Mrs G Child of Bishop Auckland being selected as the winner.

With readers watching live on The Northern Echo’s Facebook page, Mr Wilson selected Mrs Child’s submission after rummaging deep into the sack of entries.

Her entry was checked and validated by a member of the newspaper’s promotions team, and Mrs Child, who is in her 90s, was subsequently confirmed as the competition winner.

She will receive her prize shortly, and intends to spend it on her four children.

We would like to thank everyone who collected tokens and entered the ‘Win £1,000 cash’ competition - and offer special congratulations to Mrs Child.
