BUSINESSES are continuing to flock to a newly refurbished industrial estate.

Teesside Industrial Estate, located in Thornaby, has received more than £6m worth of investment, including major work on its transport links.

UK Land Estates, who own the estate, has now undertaken a £650,000 refurbishment of a block of units that had fallen into disrepair after a tenant had gone out of business.

Fitness centre OneGym, which has bases in Redcar, Newton Aycliffe and Bishop Auckland, will open in the new year, whilst bakery giant Greggs and Great Ayton bike retailer NRG Cycles have also confirmed they are to open stores at the site.

Engineer Cavotec previously confirmed they were relocating to the industrial estate thanks to the new road layout.

The road improvements saw a new roundabout built on the A174 between Thornaby and the A19.

The Cavotec building was the first development on the estate for six years and was completed at the end of last year.

David Gibbs from UK Land Estates said: “It is hoped the new facilities, as well as the ongoing investment into infrastructure, will allow us to keep developing the site to make it one of the major focal points for business in Teesside and the North East.

"As well as the retail parade which is currently under construction, the onsite facilities are improving, allowing staff to stay on the estate rather than travel to have lunch or go to the gym" he added.

UK Land Estates said there is significant interest in the remaining three units, particularly from a number of food outlets.

Around 1200 people work on the estate which opened in 1964.
