A CHEMICAL firm has secured a patent for a groundbreaking project.

High Force Research (HFR) has been granted the rights for new stem cell work, jointly developed with Durham University.

HFR, based in Bowburn, near Durham City, has long provided services to help develop new pharmaceutical and chemical products, and scientists have now worked with university chemists on compounds for medicine.

Bosses say the latest work covers small molecules, which have the potential to be applied in cell biology and pharmaceuticals, which HFR aims to further develop and commercialise.

Bob Redfern, HFR director, said: “We are delighted our patent on these stem cell chemistries has been granted; it is a fantastic achievement for the whole team.

“Collaborating with the university to obtain this result has been a great experience from start to finish, and we hope to continue to work together on further patent applications.”

Founded in 1988, HFR is an independent company known for supporting medical and scientific research advances.
