A NORTH-EAST college has invested £300,000 in computer controlled machining equipment (CNC) to help companies find the next generation of engineers.
Gateshead College says it will offer increased training for precision manufacturers.
Training will include apprenticeships and a range of workforce development courses, which aim to lift skills from basic knowledge of setting tools to running a CNC milling machine.
Supported by the Government’s Regional Growth Fund programme, the college bought a range of milling machines, lathes and a 3D printer, which will allow companies to test and create accurate 3D models of product designs.
Mick Brophy, the college’s managing director of business, innovation and development, said: “This will enable employers to access cutting-edge equipment and training that will increase the skills base of their workforce.”
