JOBSEEKERS are facing a new challenge to their recruitment prospects, a study has found.

Research by recruitment website fish4jobs has revealed that being environmentally friendly is fast becoming an essential attribute for potential candidates, because a third of employers say they would turn down an applicant if their green credentials were not up to scratch.

The survey highlights a growing trend whereby employers are increasingly evaluating candidatesf carbon footprints as much as their previous job experience, with the statistics revealing 11 per cent of employers ask potential employees about their commitment to the environment during an interview.

Potential employees also have environmental concerns, with 12 per cent checking a firmfs green credentials before applying.

To help jobseekers prepare for an eco test, fish4jobs suggests candidates should:

Research firmsf green policy;

Give eco-friendly examples;

Research local green charities;

Ask eco questions;

Make sure you know your environmental issues.
