Contract with Google helps create 400 jobs
INTERNET search company Infoserve
is marking its first anniversary
in its Tees Valley base
by launching a recruitment drive
for 100 jobs.
The firm, which moved into its
headquarters, on Darlington's
Morton Palms a year ago, recently
signed a contract with Google
to make it one of the search engine's
advertising partners.
The centre's annual turnover
of £6m is expected to increase
"dramatically" as a result of the
deal. The company said 100 jobs
would be created over the next
year as a result, with up to 300
more to follow.
Infoserve already has a similar
deal in place with Yahoo to allow
it to sell sponsored links to UK
businesses on the Yahoo Local
website.
David Balbi, Infoserve's finance
and commercial director,
said: "These deals are tremendous
news for the company and
for the region as a whole, as it will
lead to the creation of many new
jobs in the area.
"Our sales team has done an
excellent job in launching and
growing Yahoo Local. In fact,
after just three months we were
celebrating our 1,000th sale.
"Everyone is now really excited
about the Google contract,
which we will start working on in
the next few weeks.
"Having secured contracts
with the world's top two search
engines, we are now the number
one company for online local
search in the UK."
